Our Team:
Charles BrownCharles G. Brown, Esq. - National Counsel, Consumers for Dental Choice

Charles G. Brown, formerly Attorney General of West Virginia, is national counsel, Consumers for Dental Choice.  His work focuses on petitioning federal and state agencies to do their duties under the law.  For example, his lawsuit against FDA brought about a radical turnaround in FDA’s position on amalgam, and a court-required date to classify amalgam (July 2009).  His work with dental boards led to the demise of the notorious “gag rule” which directed silence by dentists instead of information about mercury fillings.  He spearheads the national campaign to expose the deceptive practices of the American Dental Association.

Charlie’s legal expertise includes antitrust, consumer protection, administrative, and government relations.  He served as a staff attorney at the Federal Trade Commission, and in the 1980s was twice elected West Virginia Attorney General. He returned to private practice in Washington, D.C. where he worked at the law firm of Swankin & Turner, a leading consumer advocacy firm, until moving to his present position.

A Yale law graduate, elected to Phi Beta Kappa at Denison University, he was a civil rights worker in Mississippi under Mayor Charles Evers and a teacher at a state prison prior to law school.  Mr. Brown has argued before the Supreme Court and currently directs the Victims Rights Political Action Committee. He is the author of First Get Mad, then Get Justice: The Handbook for Crime Victims (Carol Publishing/Birch Lane Press, 1993), a how-to guide for crime victims to assert their rights, he also edited The Sherman Brigade Marches South: The Civil War Memoirs of Colonel Robert Carson Brown (CCS Publishing 1995), written by his great-grandfather.
