Council of State Governments magazine, March 2003 edition "Mercury in the Spotlight"

The March 2003 edition of the Council of State Governments magazine has an article "Mercury in the Spotlight." Within the article, on p. 17, is a piece called "States Address Mercury Issues," by a senior policy analyst at CSG, which reads in part:

"Mercury is a toxic to the nervous system. Unborn children are especially at risk. The National Academy of Sciences recently concluded that over 60,000 children born each year may be at risk for neurodevelopmental problems due to mercury exposure in utero. Health effects from low-level mercury exposure include I.Q. deficits, developmental delays, impaired motor functions, attention and behavioral problems, and vision damage.

"STATES ISSUE ADVISORIES to warn citizens against eating contaminated fish and TO PROTECT VULNERABLE POPULATIONS, SUCH AS WOMEN AND CHILDREN."
